Welcome to The Rocks. We are in the historic port area of Sydney that dates back to the first European settlement in 1788.
This week I present a series on The Rocks; and in this shot, you see a view down Playfair Street towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
This quarter of old Sydney takes its name from the sandstone cliffs that look out over the Harbour. The Rocks is now as much a haven for locals - as well as tourists; and the latest plans for The Rocks call for improving the already pleasant walking experience by closing more streets to traffic.
On the left, you see a row of former terrace houses with iron lace balconies. Many such streets are now home for some of the city’s best restaurants and galleries.
@CElliottUK: Good question, Chris. Not absolutely sure but I think these are display cases for some the shops along the street.
