Yamdena Island - part 2Posted by Stephen (Canberra, Australia) on 13 September 2012 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. I am on the beach in a small fishing village at Yamdena Island. We dropped in unannounced to discover that not many people in the village were at home. Not really a surprise - it was a working day; and of course most people were out at their jobs. You could say they had 'gone fishing'! The boys here on the beach are standing next to a fishing platform. As you can see, it is still under construction. The villagers take these floating huts out to open water - a comfortable and productive way to fish. From what I saw, children on the island do not start school until they are a little older than these two boys.

@k@: Yes, the tropical blues are very special. The kids were a little shy at our sudden arrival on the beach. @London Caller: Yes, it could be a mobile home - guaranteed ocean views! From the ship, I saw a few of these out on the sea, but not close enough to get a good photo. @Mariana M.: Glad you like it, Mariana.
