Red Hot Pokers

Posted by
Stephen (Canberra, Australia) on 5 January 2011 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

These Red Hot Poker plants are native to South Africa – but thrive on the south-east coast of Australia. Here, they have spread from a garden and add a splash of warm colour to the view from this headland at Dalmeny.

No one can seem to give such consistent clean images that you deliver constantly.
I love this one not marred by anything, beauty unbridled.

Haha! Over here, red-hot pokers are autumn plants, so we only see them when it's grey. The colours here are about a million times brighter!. Great shot of the pokers against the azure sea

Excellent image of great beauty. Exotic vegetation in the foreground is perfect. Maybe I would try putting the horizon line ... seems to be leaning to the right (mine) which is a shame because the image is perfect. Ambient light and color is sublime. Congratulations friend! Best regards, Adela

5 Jan 2011 9:03am

@Adela Fonts: Thanks for your comment about the horizon line. I won't crop this image but I've worked out how to fix the horizon line in Photoshop; and I've now fixed the image I have ready for tomorrow which also had a crooked horizon!

That's so beautiful and exotic!
Bold and strong contrast.

Here in England, there are many pink thrifts by the sea.
Pink and blue are equally lovely combination, I think. ;)

Wow...great colour contrast. I bet that's Narooma. I've seen it often but never taken that shot . I must get some red hot pokers. Well done

6 Jan 2011 12:00am

@Anne J.: Dalmeny is about 5 kms north of Narooma. If you haven't been there in the last couple of years, there is now an outstanding cycle/walking path along the headlands between the two towns.
