Our city has just enjoyed its Multicultural Festival – with music, dance and culture from all over the world. In this shot you see artist Michael Fitch at work. Michael set up a sidewalk studio with canvases and easels. He added his artist's eye for colour to a festival plaza full of the bright costumes and flags of many nations. With the aromas drifting through the air from all the food stalls - it was a treat for all the senses!

You can view Michael Fitch’s work on his website.

A warmth and joy in your portrait. I love street festivals and always try to attend them; this is an important kind of photo-share image, in my opinion. Vicarious world travel, well captured and presented. I'll take a frame like this any day of the week, and thank you for the experience of being able to imagine being there.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

You have a great city to sponsor all these cultural events. Super shot!

15 Feb 2011 1:11am

@Steve Rice: Thanks, Steve. Yes, we are lucky to have this support and funds for cultural events. I think the people of Canberra take too much for granted the range of free public events the city can enjoy. These free events are also great for photographers. This is in contrast to many ticketed events that now ban what they call “professional cameras" from the venue.

Steve from Sonoma, United States

Nicely composed portrait... "candid"?
