Interwoven - part 1

Posted by
Stephen (Canberra, Australia) on 18 March 2011 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

You are with our finale on Groovin’ in the City. In this shot, you see one of the dancers from Janine Ayres Aerial Dance. The title of the piece they performed was "Interwoven".

The Groovin' in the City program of free lunch time entertainment ran for 24 weeks from last September to February. Performances were in plaza areas of Canberra’s CBD; and roving acts also appeared around the city centre. Over 500 mostly local acts made up the program. Hopefully, its funding will go on; and I can bring you more Groovin’ later in the year!

I was just wondering where on earth you see all these "street perfomers" and then I read your comment. What a great idea. Who were funding it?
I love the POV and tones here.

18 Mar 2011 7:41am

@✿ Anina ✿: Canberra's Territory government provided the funding. The chamber of commerce has also given its support. The idea has been to help revive the original city center where many shops are closing and trade is in decline. This is due to competition from the mega malls. It is the same problem with cities in all parts of the world.

This is gorgeous! It seems funding these cultural events is well worth the money. Hopefully, they attracted enough visitors to give the city center a boost. I've seen and heard of much less robust efforts elsewhere. Canberra seems to have done it right.

Wonderful, as she seems to awaken from her pedestal, Stephen. With the heavy makeup though,
it reminds me of all these beauty creams ads, and this shot would be the real, stark reality as she
awakens a sight ! Beautiful capture.
