You have joined me as I launch my series on the 2012 George Bass Surfboat Marathon.
190km in seven days. The world's toughest surfboat race!
This year, 23 boats took part in the race from Batemans Bay to Eden. I joined the event for Day 4 - Narooma to Bermagui.
A sea mist welcomed the rowers as they arrived at Narooma surf beach. In this seascape, the jagged outcrop rising from the mist is the Glasshouse Rocks. If you refer to my previous post, you can see a more idyllic view of the monolith!
A big, rough sea had calmed overnight. The day before, one of the boats had an oar smashed in the wild surf.
The event takes place every two years. It retraces part of the journey undertaken by George Bass in 1797 when, with a longboat crew of six oarsmen, he mapped the south east coast of Australia.
