Surfboat Marathon - part 11

Posted by
Stephen (Canberra, Australia) on 1 February 2012 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

The last of the boats are soon away - and the race is on to Bermagui! Easy for me - I am heading down the highway to meet them at the finish line.

The second half of my series will feature the action as the boats hit the sandy cove at Bermagui. Hope you can stay with me!

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

Do they all start at the same time? The daft question is because the 2 boats in the background already seem to have quite a head start on this one

1 Feb 2012 7:13am

@CElliottUK: Good question, Chris. The boats all launch then take up position behind the breakers for the starting gun. There would be some advantage in getting out there first in order to take up good position - as currents or tides might vary across the width of the starting line. Out to sea, a fleet of support craft assist with the race start.
