A new twist on the Occupy movement.
For a few warmer months earlier in the year, this teepee was home for Design student, William Woodbridge. He set up his teepee on Lake Ginninderra as a protest against the high cost of student rental housing.
He built the raft and teepee during his vacation. I’m not sure if it later qualified for any of his assignments!
However, his new home was soon under siege. Yes - there is a law that forbids any such water world lifestyle.
Here, you see his teepee moored in placid waters. William’s protest ended before the start of freezing winter nights. He accepted an offer for low cost housing.
The fate of the teepee is now a mystery. It vanished from the lake shortly after William’s raft activism was over.
On this zany piece of social history, I end my short series on the parks and open spaces of Belconnen. Hope you enjoyed this brief look at my town - in Canberra's north.
