A moment of congratulations to celebrate the opening of the shared pathway that links the seaside towns of Dalmeny, Kianga and Narooma. The 6.7 km path is for walking and cycling. Local people began work on the path in 2006 and completed the last section earlier this year.
The tribute stone you see here is a block of granite. It has a very interesting history. The construction of the new Parliament House in Canberra used several thousand such blocks. One leftover piece found its way to a local landscaping supply yard. It sat there for many years until it found its true purpose - to become the tribute stone you see here.
Fundraisers, form workers, concreters and a morning tea group all worked with local business and Council to complete the project.
In my new series, I will have a few shots from the opening of the pathway. Then, join me for a walk as we explore the scenic route around the headlands and beaches.
