Road to Hill End - part 18

Posted by
Stephen (Canberra, Australia) on 19 December 2013 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

My road trip through the Central West of New South Wales has taken me 500 km to the town of Hill End.

As well as the gold rush history it shares with Gulgong, Hill End is also famous for the artists' colony that began there in the late 1940s.

Today, artists continue to live and work in Hill End. This pottery was one of the places I was able to visit during the Open Day in October.

I'm struck by how remarkably clean it is, most potteries end up being very messy and dusty.

This is a beautiful image! I like how you composed it. I used to do pottery on the wheel years ago. It is such a satisfying experience making something like that.

A tidy workshop. The rough hewn supports and old floors speak of times gone by.
