The Outback - part 4

Posted by Stephen (Canberra, Australia) on 11 August 2017 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

If you know the Australian film, Mad Max II: The Road Warrior, you will recall the menacing mood of the Outback environments where the film was shot. Mad Max II was shot at locations in and around Silverton and Broken Hill.

I am in the ghost town of Silverton - about 25 km from the mining city of Broken Hill. Because of its authentic Outback atmosphere, Silverton and its Hotel often feature in film and TV productions. Silverton (population about 50) retains its character as a ghost town but in recent years has also become a haven for a number of artists who have studios in the town.

In my next post, we visit the unofficial Mad Max II Museum in Silverton!

reminds me of an OLD West town here in the USA. Great mood and character in this image. Was the show A Town Called ALice filmed in the Outback?

@Ruthiebear: Thanks Ruthie. Yes, I understand that the mini-series A Town Like Alice was filmed at Outback locations in Broken Hill and Silverton in New South Wales and also Longreach in the state of Queensland.

What a great place! That car looks like something out of Mad Max! It does look so desolate out there. I love the sky! A great image!

Honestly, at first glance, the first thought that popped into my head was Mad Max. I especially enjoyed the Road Warrior. A super shot of this desolate looking area.

A fantastic dusty wide shot. I love the tie-in with movie shoots, and am reminded of another great Aussie film that too few have seen, "Wake In Fright".
