Super Blue Blood Moon

Posted by
Stephen (Canberra, Australia) on 7 February 2018 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio.

Last week I was lucky to have a clear sky for this cosmic event - last seen 35 years ago. A bigger brighter moon with a red hue!

It was a rare convergence of three celestial events - a super moon, a blue moon and a full lunar eclipse.

This means the second full moon of the calendar month (a blue moon) was at its closest point to the Earth, appeared bigger and brighter (a super moon) and to complete the trifecta, was fully eclipsed as it passed directly behind the Earth.

Wow!! What an awesome capture!! How were you able to zoom in with only 300 mm? 5*****

@Steven: Thanks Steven. I was using a Nikon V1 which is a small sensor camera and I also had an adapter allowing me to shoot with the Nikon 70-300mm lens. On the smaller sensor you multiply the focal length by 2.7, giving an equivalent of 810mm. However, that works like cropping the centre of the full frame image, resulting in some loss of resolution. However still gives impressive image quality from the old V1 mirrorless camera.
